| AYSO Origin and Philosophy In the early 1960's in California most youth soccer organizations were ethnically based. Several families, whose children were excluded from participating in local teams, decided to form a soccer program for anyone who wanted to play soccer (Open Registration). Moreover, each player would be guaranteed to play at least half of every game (Everyone Plays). The ideal would be that any team could win the first game of the season (Balanced Teams). Subsequently, the record of the team would depend on individual player dedication to skill development, the quality of coaching, and who might be on vacation in a particular week. There was an emphasis on Positive Coaching and Good Sportsmanship. AYSO is a volunteer organization, in which coaches, referees, and board members contribute their time to create a positive program for the children of the community. We use soccer to build character and encourage teamwork in our developing citizens. If you would like to contribute to this effort, contact us by email or by phone (928-773-1222). | |
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) This link will give you answers to many of the questions that families usually ask about practices, games, teams, and other subjects.
Picture Day Every year we contract with a photographer to take pictures of your player and teammates, if you want to participate. This year picture day will probably be at Foxglen Park in July. The actual dates will be on our calendar when final arrangements are made.
Soccer Camp We sponsor one or two soccer camps that incorporate the specific principles of AYSO: positive coaching, good sportsmanship, and coaches are trained in AYSO's safe haven policy. The actual dates will be on our calendar when final arrangements are made.
Team Banner Many teams like to make a banner. Here are some ideas.
Roster Sizes The number of players on a roster and on the field varies with the ages of the players.
In Case of Injury The most important concern is to get appropriate treatment for the injured person. The coach and the parent should make sure to fill out the Incident Report Form and the family is responsible for completing and submitting the Notification of Injury Form to the insurance company. Your player's registration fee paid for AYSO's Soccer Accident Insurance, but note that it is a Full Excess Policy and has a $200 deductible.
Trophies AYSO will provide trophies for all players in U05 and U06, based on the online rosters. U08 and older teams may arrange themselves to order and buy their own trophies if they desire to do so.
